XFC 18: Music City Mayhem is set to feature another card of well-matched MMA talent by XFC President, John Prisco. Included in the lineup will be a heavyweight bout between two XFC veterans, Gabriel “The Franchise” Salinas-Jones and Scott “The Bear” Barrett. GSJ will be returning to the XFC cage for the first time since facing Parker Porter at XFC 13 in 2010. With a record of (6-2-1) and (1-1 XFC), there is at least one thing Salinas-Jones has surely learned from his experience – Don’t let it go to the judges.
With 4 submission victories, the ability to work from his back and scramble from inferior positions, Gabe Salinas-Jones won’t be uncomfortable with this fight going to the ground. GSJ’s submission skills may even cause Barrett to look for a standing battle. If so, XFC fans could be treated to another slug fest, similar to Barrett’s last fight at XFC 14. On that night, after Barrett and Marrero saw their wrestling skills nullified, the two fighters gifted the excited Orlando crowd with three rounds of heavy handed exchanges. The fans in Nashville may possibly see a similar fight play out at XFC 18, but GSJ won’t let the action go the distance.
In 3 pro fights that have taken “The Franchise” to the score cards, 2 have resulted in losses, another in a draw. Victorious on all other occasions, GSJ will be looking to re-enter the XFC Heavyweight division with a victory over Barrett in Nashville at XFC 18. At XFC 18, when Salinas-Jones takes on Scott Barrett, he will working hard to keep the fight from going to the judge’s cards, as he aims to improve his record and show XFC fans that he is indeed “The Franchise.”
“We’ve been concentrating heavily on every division of the XFC, both mens & womens.” said XFC President John Prisco. “Our search for the most talented fighters in the world is a constant. Gabe Salina’s Jones and Scott Barrett are two of the best heavyweights around and it was only right that I pair them up to see who can begin making their way in our division. We’ll see what happens in Nashville when both of these guys put on what could potentially be, the Fight of the Night. “ In regards to Salinas-Jones coming back to XFC, “I’m excited to have Gabe in our Heavyweight division, he put on a good show at 13 and has gained a lot more experience since then. I’m positive the fans in Nashville and those watching live on HDNet will enjoy the show, as well as getting to know Gabe as an XFC Fighter.”
XFC 18 airs live on HDnet, June 22 at 9pm, from Nashville, Tennessee. For more info on the event visit www.OfficialXFC.com and follow the promotion on Twitter & Facebook (@OfficialXFC). You can also follow these two great XFC Fighters on Twitter @GabeSalinas and @ScottBearHCG.
