There is no shortage of mixed martial arts action for fans as we head into the final month of the year. The heavyweights, UFC and Strikeforce, have their final big cards of the year featuring their marquee fighters. In addition, a handful of smaller promotions are offering a chance to catch some of the up-and-coming MMA stars.
CES Snow Brawl – December 2nd
Classic Entertainment & Sports offers a full card that is headlined by 165-pound catch-weight fight with former UFC fighter Dan “The Upgrade” Lauzon taking on Damien “The Omen” Trites. The event takes place at the Twin River Event Center in Lincoln, RI. More information available here.
Tachi Palace Fights 7: Deck the Halls – December 2nd
A light heavyweight bout between James Irvin and Jorge Oliveira headlines the card that also features two championship fights. MMAJunkie will be offering a free live stream of the event beginning at 8:30 pm ET.
XFC XIII: Unstoppable – December 3rd
Xtreme Fighting Championships, Florida’s largest MMA organization, hosts their latest event at the St Pete Times Forum in Tampa, FL. The card is headlined by a featherweight title fight between champion Jarrod “Wild Card” Card and challenger Luis Palomino. The event will be shown live on HDNet starting at 9:00 pm. ET.
Strikeforce: Henderson vs. Babalu – December 4th
Strikeforce offers a stacked card featuring a rematch between MMA veterans Dan Henderson and Renato “Babalu” Sobral. There are also two fights that could have title fight implications in their respective divisions. A welterweight bout between strikers Paul Daley and Scott Smith has serious potential for fireworks…be shocked if this fight does the distance. Heavy-handed Robbie Lawler faces off against wrestler Matt Lindland in a contest in which the winner moves further up the middleweight ranks. The event takes place from the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, MO with the main card being televised on the Showtime channel at 10:00 ET.
The Ultimate Fighter 12 Finale – December 4th
The final two contestants (still TBD) on Season 12 of The Ultimate Fighter square off for an opportunity to earn a six-figure contract from the UFC. Stephan Bonner, a contestant on TUF 1, headlines the card against the tough Igor Pokrajac. TUF 3 winner Kendall Grove takes on submission specialist Demian Maia in an intriguing middleweight match-up. The TUF 12 Finale will be shown live on Spike TV beginning at 9:00 pm ET.
whew…that should keep everyone busy through the first weekend of December. Then we have UFC 124, WEC 53 and DREAM Dynamite!! to look forward to in the coming weeks.
