After two blockbuster shows in Knoxville and Jackson, Tennessee earlier this year, the XFC will bring a night of action to Nashville on June 22nd, when the promotion presents XFC 18: Music City Mayhem live on HDNet. For this monstrous event, the XFC has pulled out all the stops by recently announcing Josh Samman vs. John Salter as the main event of the evening.
Regarded as one of the top free agents in the world, Samman made headlines last month by signing a multi-fight deal with the XFC after his dominant performance with the promotion earlier in the year. Known primarily as a finisher, Samman has built his reputation off of highlight reel knockouts and exciting submissions. At XFC 16 Samman dominated Bellator veteran Mikey Gomez, forcing him to tap to strikes early in the fight. The Capital City Combat Club product has won 6 of his last 7 fights and finished all but one opponent in the first round.
Standing in Samman’s way of a perfect record in the XFC is UFC veteran John Salter. After a loss to Dan Miller at UFC 118 Salter has quietly gone 3-0, with three straight finishes. Known for his superior wrestling, Salter has quickly evolved into a complete mixed martial artist while training out of Nashville MMA under Ed Clay and Shawn Hammonds. Last summer in Canada, Salter knocked out Ultimate Fighter star Kalib Starnes in the second round. Salter is an Alabama State high school wrestling champion and also won the 2007 NAIA National Wrestling Championship while attending Lindenwood University. With wins over UFC veterans such as James Hammertree and Jason McDonald, it’s easy to see why Salter is one of the best at 185 in the world.
With two such high profile fighters set for the the main event, XFC President John Prisco is ecstatic at what will be a great way to cap off ‘Music City Mayhem’ in June. “I can’t wait to get to Nashville to see Salter and Samman go at it,” exclaimed Prisco. “We signed Josh Samman last month after his performance in Knoxville. That kid has what is takes and is everything the XFC looks for in a fighter. He’s exciting, dynamic, and he looks for the finish. You will never see Josh try to win a decision. Now John Salter is going to be a test for Josh. Salter has competed against the best in the world and has proven himself to be one of the top middleweights out there. I’m really intrigued at how this fight will play out. Salter has such good wrestling, but has shown that he can knock people out and submit them as well. Samman is so powerful and Salter is so technical, something has to give. The fans in Nashville and everyone watching live on HDNet better get ready for this one.
