Avery “Psycho” Vilche will replace Sophia Bagherdai in the feature bout of XFC 18 : Music City Mayhem June 22nd Live on HDNet. Due to an injury sustained in training camp, Bagherdai will put her XFC debute on hold. The XFC media staff announced the “Hurricane” Heather Jo Clark will take on Vilche in a catch weight bout at 120lbs.
Vilche, who accepted the fight on short notice, will enter the cage having gone 2-1 in her past three contests. XFC 18 will mark the second fight Vilche has taken in 2012, the first ending with a win over Maria Anderverde in late April. Vilche finished that fight in less than 2 minutes with an impressive Armbar victory.
Clark, who was expecting to face Bagherdai with whom she shared a matching (4-2) record, will now face a much more experienced fighter in the “Psycho”. Vilche brings the experience of 11 pro fights, as well as an 11 year age difference into the bout at XFC 18. In 4 career wins, Vilche has recorded two Armbar victories, a TKO victory over Michelle “Thundercat” Ould, and one decision. XFC President John Prisco was excited to find such a challenging opponent for Clark on late notice.
“Avery Vilche is going to be a test for Heather. She takes the fight on late notice, but now Clark who has been preparing for Bagherdai the whole time may have to change her game plan. Vilche is so tough, she has the ability to take some punches and she really grinds it out with the ground game. She’s proven many times she’s capable of submitting or knocking out her opponent, so Heather is going to have a tough fight with her,” said Prisco of the new match up. “Heather is pretty used to late notice on her opponents. I think she may have had her opponents switched on her last minute in three out of four of her fights so far, so she’s not unfamiliar with the circumstances.”
XFC fans are in for a brawl when these two lady competitors take to the cage on June 22. The fight will air live on HDNet/AXStv as the feature bout of the evening. Vilche will be the first opponent for Clark, since signing a long term contract with the XFC in early 2012. With an impressive and growing XFC female roster that now includes some of the best in womens mma: Felice Herrig, Marianna Kheyfets, and Sophia Bagherdai to name a few, Clark will be looking to get a significant win and show the ladies of the XFC that she means business. A win over Vilche could also lead to a rematch with Kheyfets, something Clark and the XFC fans alike have been asking for.
