The Bellator Fighting Championships returned to the Lucky Star Casino in Concho, OK for Bellator 42 which featured the Season 4 light heavyweight semifinals bouts. In the first semifinal Christian M’Pumbu wasted no time in securing his spot in the finals with a first round technical knockout of previously undefeated Tim Carpenter. M’Pumbu connected with a straight right that wobbled Carpenter then a follow-up right uppercut that put him on the ground. The referee stepped in to prevent anymore punishment giving M’Pumbu the victory in just 2:08 into the bout.
In the second light heavyweight semifinal bout Rich Hale advances with a split decision win over D.J. Linderman thanks in part to a dominant third round. Hale utilized his reach advantage to counter the Linderman who pressed forward much of the fight. The close bout may have been decided in the third round in the fight to the ground with Hale taking Linderman’s back. Hale spent the round working for a rear naked choke submission while delivering most of the punishment.
