UKMMAF launches referees course in July

The United Kingdom Mixed Martial Arts Federation (UKMMAF) launches its official UKMMAF Referees Course next month over 11th and 12th July at Outlaw MMA gym in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire.

Successful completion of the two day course will earn participants a UKMMAF referees license that permits them to referee at upcoming IMMAF and UKMMAF Amateur MMA competitions in the UK, dependent on experience. It will also license them to referee on future UKMMAF sanctioned events when full sanctioning comes into play in the near future, based also on registered experience.

The UKMMAF Referees Course contains both theoretical and practical training, a 40 minute examination and includes resource materials. Also included in the original price is one complimentary re-sit of the original examination.

After the course finishes, participants will receive their result via email with a copy of their certificate for those who pass. Instructions will also be sent as to how to register for future professional development.

The course has been written by the UKMMAF Regulatory Affairs Committee that comprises among its experienced referees Leon Roberts, Mark Woodard, Neil Hall and Marc Goddard. The course will be led by Mark Woodard.

Committee member, established referee and course coach Mark Woodard said:

“Having been involved with the UK MMA scene for more years than I can remember, the announcement of the UKMMAF Refs course is a massive leap forward for MMA in the UK. The course has been put together by some of the most experienced refs available in this country. Leon Roberts, Neil Hall, Marc Goddard and myself have all had input into the course as well as the other members of the UKMMAF Regulatory Committee.

“The course aims to be the benchmark for referees here. The structure, topics covered and the multiple choice question examination will benefit anyone who completes the course. Not only does this course encourage and demand input from the attendees but it also has a practical section, which is designed to give everyone an understanding of where the referee should be positioned to make sure that they are always in the best place possible. Every single aspect of the ref’s job is covered in this unique course; and held over 2 days (6 hours per day), this course is purely focused on the job of the referee.

“Along with a clear path of progression this course will be a major stepping stone in getting MMA recognized in the UK. The important thing to remember is that anyone who isn’t registered as an official with the UKMMAF will not be able to work on any promotions the UKMMAF sanction, in the near future. This is your chance to get on board at the outset of what is a major turning point for Mixed Martial Arts in the UK.”

The inaugural two day course costs just £250 inclusive as a special offer to first participants.
