Andrei “The Pit Bull” Arlovski came into the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix tournament looking to put an end to a three fight losing streak. Unfortunately for him, Sergei Kharitonov (18-4) had other plans as he knocked out Arlovski in the first round of their bout. Kharitonov entered the tournament as a dark-horse already holding notable wins over Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem and Fabricio Werdum. Arlovski (15-9) has now lost four fight in a row, all by knockout. There will undoubtable be questions about his future in the sport. Arlovski looked sharp early as he displayed good footwork and quick hands. However, Kharitonov pressed forward the entire fight and landed a looping right hand that dropped the backpedaling Arlovski. Kharitonov landed a couple more shots that puts Arlovski out cold at 2:49.
