The Bellator Fighting Championship announced that undefeated Michael Chandler has been signed for the upcoming Season 4 lightweight tournament.
Chandler (5-0) competed twice for Bellator during 2010 when he notched victories over Scott Stapp and Chris Page. Chandler, a former Division I All American wrestler from the University of Missouri, is fighting out of Xtreme Couture. Despite his wrestling background he wants to be more than just a “wrestler” in his mixed martial arts career as he states on the Bellator.com release;
I want to break away from the traditional wrestling mold that a lot of guys have. People say that all wrestlers just want to take their opponents down and lay on them for three rounds, but I want to go out there and finish them. I don’t want to just go out there and win, I want to go out there and dominate.
Chandler is ready to continue his winning ways as he gears up for the tournament which has been in his sights for some time.
I’ve had my eyes set on capturing that Bellator World Lightweight Championship since the moment I signed with Bellator.
I’m excited about the next three months of training, and I’m excited about being able to go out there and dominate fight after fight. This is the opportunity of a lifetime in a young fighter’s career.
Chandler, along with “Razor” Rob McCullough Carey Vanier are the confirmed lightweights for the eight-man tournament that begins in March and will be shown on MTV 2.
