The Bellator Fighting Championships announced that they have signed Brazilian bantamweight Marcos Galvao to a long term contract. Galvao (9-4-1) is already lined-up to compete in the upcoming Season 5 bantamweight tournament. The winner of the eight man tournament will receive a title shot against champion Zack Makovsky.
Galvao recently competed at Bellator 41 in a catchweight bout against current featherweight champion Joe Warren. The Brazilian proved that he is ready for top level competition by giving Warren all that he could handle despite losing a
controversial decision. Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney stated on the official release at Bellator.com;
After going blow for blow with our Featherweight Champion Joe Warren, there was really no doubt we wanted Galvao back with Bellator.
In Bellator, fighters control their own destiny, and after the performance Marcos put on at Bellator 41, he definitely earned a spot in our bantamweight tournament.
There is a possibility that Warren will also enter the bantamweight tournament and Galvao would more than welcome a rematch.
I definitely don’t believe I lost my fight with Joe Warren. I want a rematch just in case there was doubt in the first fight. I’ll clear up those doubts the second time around.
