Invicta officials, who confirmed the bout on Monday, indicated that the match-up will be part of the main card. According to Invicta FC President Shannon Knapp, “Leslie and Raquel have both proven to be ferocious and determined competitors in the Invicta FC cage, so we are excited to be able to match them up against each other and create what should be a barnburner of a fight.”
In her last outing at Invicta FC 3, Smith (4-2-1) notched an impressive second round technical knockout of Kaitlin Young. Smith has now won three of her fights by way of knockout. Pennington (3-2) will look to rebound from a submission loss to undefeated Cat Zingano at Invicta FC 3 which snapped her two fight winning streak. It has been a busy year for Pennington who has fought five times since turning professional in May.
Invicta FC 4 will go down from the Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kansas. The 12-bout fight card will be streamed on the Invicta website. The main event of the evening features Carla Esparza taking on Claudia Gadelha for the opportunity to become the first ever Invicta strawweight champion.
