IMMAF INTRODUCES RASHGUARD TOPS FOR ALL COMPETITORS AHEAD OF 2016 IMMAF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS AT UFC INTERNATIONAL FIGHT WEEK™
The International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) will be introducing coloured rashguard tops for all its Amateur MMA competitors, in a first for the sport, commencing with the 2016 IMMAF World Championships at UFC International Fight Week.
The nation vs. nation tournament runs over 5 days from 5 to 10 July at the Las Vegas Convention Center, with the Semi-Finals and Finals taking place inside the UFC Fan Expo at the same venue. See schedule and ticket information below.
Well reputed martial arts equipment supplier, Greenhill Sports, is providing IMMAF branded rashguards as part of its renewed sponsorship for the World Championships.
IMMAF President, Kerrith Brown, said:
“The decision was made to introduce rashguards for all competitors in order to visually separate Amateur MMA from the Professional side of the sport for fans, broadcast partners and for branding purposes. For the viewer, we would like to create an instantly recognisable distinction between the two levels of the sport. In a nation vs. nation tournament the rashguard creates more opportunities for distinguishing different national teams and also is more visually appealing.
“From a technical point of view, we feel that rashguards for both sexes creates an even playing field, since IMMAF’s female athletes in both levels of the sport have previously worn rashguards, which impacts on the grappling components of MMA competition.
“Amateur MMA being an unfunded sport in most parts of the word, the introduction of rashguards will expand sponsorship opportunities for athletes and federations.”
“I would like to thank Greenhill for supporting the launch of this initiative at our World Championships.”
