Bellator CEO and Chairman Bjorn Rebney discussed Minakov stating, “He has an incredible Sambo background and a very solid stand up game. His potential after just eight fights is very high and we are excited to have him joining Bellator.”
Minakov (8-0), a four time World Sambo champion, is expected to make his Bellator debut in the near future. He has finished seven of his opponents in the first round with three wins coming by knockout and four by submission. In his most recent bout on June 7th, Minakov scored a first round knockout of Bellator and UFC veteran Eddie Sanchez.
