Jordan Smith replaces Brian Foster in Bellator welterweight tournament

bellator fighting championships logoThe Bellator Fighting Championships announced today that Brian Foster is ineligible to compete in the upcoming Season 6 welterweight tournament.

Taking his spot in the eight-man tournament will be Bellator newcomer Jordan Smith who will square off against David Rickels. The quarterfinal round kicks-off next Friday, March 30th at Bellator 63 from the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT.

According to the Bellator release, “Foster will need to be screened for additional testing before he is medically cleared to fight” per the Mohegan Sun Commission. The unfortunate news for Foster opens the doors to Smith, who is eager to take advantage of the opportunity, “This is the break I’ve been waiting for. What I like about Bellator is there’s a clear line of sight to the title.”

Smith will bring a 17-2-1 record into the tournament. Fourteen of his career victories have via stoppage with seven wins apiece by knockout and submission. Smith has won his last two bouts by decision over Karo Parisyan and Josh McDonald.
