Bellator’s Season 6 Tourney Kicks-off on March 9th

bellator fighting championships logoIt’s finally March and college basketball is not the only game in town!

This Friday, March 9th marks the beginning of the Bellator Fighting Championships Season 6 tournaments. Over the next few months Bellator will be holding eight-man tournaments in the bantamweight, featherweight, lightweight, welterweight and middleweight divisions. The winner of each tournament not only receives a nice payday but they also earn a title shot against the current Bellator champion of their respective weight class.

The Bellator Season 6 tournaments will air live on MTV2 and EPIX HD. Here is a quick update of the action that will take place this month.

  • 3/9 Bellator 60 – Featherweight champion Joe Warren defends his title against two-time tournament winner Pat Curran, as well as, the quarterfinals of the featherweight tournament.
  • 3/16 Bellator 61 – The card is highlighted by a heavyweight tournament final between Eric Prindle and Thiago Santos plus the quarterfinals of the middleweight tournament.
  • 3/23 Bellator 62 – The Laredo Energy Arena in Laredo, Texas plays host to the lightweight quarterfinals.
  • 3/30 Bellator 63 The welterweight quarterfinals take place from the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT.

The actions rolls on into April with two additional championship bouts and a highly anticipated “superfight”. Welterweight champion Ben Askren defends his title against tournament winner Douglas Lima while bantamweight title holder Zach Makovsky takes on Eduardo Dantas. In recently announced “superfight” rematch between former Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez and DREAM lightweight champion Shinya Aoki.
