Bellator signs bantamweight wrestler Shawn Bunch

bellator fighting championships logoAnother week, another fighter signs with the Bellator Fighting Championships.

Bellator announced on Monday that they have signed wrestling specialist Shawn Bunch.

Bunch, a former U.S. Olympic wrestling qualifier, currently trains with the American Kickboxing Academy where he will now focus exclusively on MMA. He has has already trained alongside of some of the other top wrestlers who have migrated into MMA including Ben Askren and Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal.

Askren, the Bellator welterweight champion, stated, “I’ve traveled the world with Shawn competing together in wrestling competitions, and know what kind of competitor he is. He’ll make an incredible addition to the Bellator family, and I’m excited to see what he brings to the cage.”

According to Bellator Chairman Bjorn Rebney, Bunch brings a “level of explosiveness to MMA that is hard to match”. Bunch hopes to showcase that explosiveness at an upcoming bantamweight tournament.
