Bellator 65 Results – Eduardo Dantas submits Zach Makovsky to capture bantamweight title

bellator 65 posterThe Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey plays host to Bellator 65 on Friday, April 13th.

The main event features bantamweight champion Zach “Fun Size” Makovsky putting his title on the line against season five tournament winner Eduardo Dantas. In addition, the season six tournaments will roll on with three bouts on the main card.

Mike Corey will meet Daniel Straus in a featherweight semifinal bout with the winner facing Marlon Sandro in the finals. There will be two bantamweight quarterfinals on tap with Ed West battling Marcos Galvao and Alexis Vila squaring off against Luis Nogueira.

The main card for Bellator 65 will be televised live on MTV2 and EPIX HD at 8:00pm ET and the preliminary card streaming on Spike.com at approximately 7:00pm ET. The fight results will be posted below following each bout.

Bellator 65 Preliminary Card Results

Mikhail Malyutin vs. Emanuel Brooks
Brooks defeated Malyutin by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-26, 30-27).

LeVon Maynard vs. Lyman Good
Good defeated Maynard in just :13 seconds of the first round. Good, a Bellator former champion, makes a statement as he punches his ticket into next welterweight tournament.

Ailton Barbosa vs. Kris McCray
McCray defeated Barbosa by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28). McCray had top control for a majority of the fight while demonstrating solid submission defense.

Lester Caslow vs. Scott Heckman
Heckman defeated Caslow by rear-naked choke submission at 3:40 of the first round. Heckman improves to 10-3 as he dominated from the opening bell and finished with a great transition to force the tap out.

Pino Cruz vs. Duane Bastress
Bastress defeated Cruz by technical knockout at 2:52 of the second round.

Terrell Hobbs vs. Will Martinez
Martinez defeated Hobbs by rear-naked choke submisstion at 4:13 of the second round.

Bellator 65 Main Card Results

Marcos Galvao vs. Ed West – Bantamweight Quarterfinal
Galvao defeated West by unanimous decision (30-27). A great fight to kick off the main card as the fighters went toe-to-toe for three rounds. Galvao pressed the action throughout the fight while putting everything into his strikes. He would also control the action on the ground with a solid top game and submission defense. Galvao advances to the semifinals of the bantamweight tournament.

Luis Nogueira vs. Alexis Vila – Bantamweight Quarterfinal
Nogueira defeated Vila by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28). With the Nogueira becomes the fourth and final semifinalist of the bantamweight tournament.

Mike Corey vs. Daniel Straus – Featherweight Semifinal
Straus defeated Corey by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28). Straus advances to the semifinals of the featherweight tournament where he will face Marlon Sandro. Straus relied on a stinging left as the primary weapon of his offensive attack. By the end of the end of the first round Corey was busted up from repeated lefts from Straus . Corey would not go away as he picked up the pace in the second round as he pressured Straus. In the final frame Straus regained control behind a more active stand-up game.

Zach “Fun Size” Makovsky vs. Eduardo Dantas – Bantamweight Championship
Dantas defeated Makovsky by arm triangle choke (technical submission) at 3:26 of the second round to become the new Bellator bantamweight champion. An impressive performance from the new champion Dantas who was able to dominate Makovsky. Dantas displayed a slick ground game in the second round as he twice had full mount on Makovsky. Fun Size was unable to shake Dantas on the ground who transitioned to the arm triangle. Makovsky refused to tap as he was choked out cold by the new champion.
