Bellator welterweight champion Ben “Funky” Askren used his Olympic caliber wrestling to stifle challenger Douglas Lima in the main event of Bellator 64. Askren successfully defending his title with a dominate performance in which he swept the judges scorecards for all five rounds. Lima had no answer off of his back for the top control of Askren.
Bellator 64 also featured Season 6 tournament bouts in the bantamweight and featherweight divisions. In banatamweight quarterfinal bouts Hiroshi Nakamura would earn a unanimous decision over Rodrigo Lima while Travis Marx did the same over Masakatsu Ueda. Both fights played out similarly as Nakamura and Marx would use solid grappling and top control to dictate the fight.
In a featherweight tournament semifinal bout Marlon Sandro defeated Alexandre “Popo” Bezerra. The Brazilians put on a standup battle as Sandro appeared to get the better of the striking for the first two rounds as Bezerra looked to counter punch. However, Bezerra turned up the pressure in the third round with a much more agreesive offense attack. He briefly had Sandro in trouble but it may have been a little too late in the eyes of the judges. Sandro advances to the featherweight finals for the second straight year.
